HUNTERSVILLE,
N.C. (April 11, 2010) – Each year since 1974, Houston, Tex. has hosted a
round of the AMA Supercross Championship. Whether at the Astrodome, or more recently Reliant Stadium, the venue is
rich in history. Retired multi-time AMA champion Mark Barnett maintains
the Muscle Milk/Toyota/JGRMX Team test tracks, he also happens to share the
record for the most wins in Houston with the all-time winningest
supercross rider, Jeremy McGrath (five each). After
a week off, Justin Brayton’s thumb injury had
time to heal and was much better than it was in Jacksonville. Brayton
looked strong all day and set some of the fastest laps during timed
qualifying. Unfortunately, a lapped rider tangled with Justin during his
heat race causing him to crash aggravating the injury. He was able to
remount and still qualify directly from the heat race. Michael Byrne also
transferred to the main event from his heat race. In the
main event Brayton and Byrne started at the rear of the pack deep in
traffic. After racing hard for 20 laps, at times with one another, they
crossed the finish line in ninth and 14th respectively. |
